This was our maiden voyage as Renaissance Adventure Guides, and I'm happy to report it was a resounding success. There were seven of us on this trip: local guides Annie and Didi from Lummi Island, RG President Mike Young, clients Ben and Kathleen from Evergreen, CO, and Dave
and Jaymie from New York City.

The trip commenced on Thurs, 21 Sep as the clients arrived at Lummi Island that morning. Unfortunately, an unseasonably early Noreaster had blown into the area that morning, creating winds in excess of 25 knots and seas in Rosario Strait over 8 feet. Not to be dissuaded from getting what we could from the day, we practiced launching in the surf and held discussions on tide, currents, navigation, expedition packing, and self rescue. Conditions were much to dangerous to even put on the water close to the island, so we hiked up Lummi Peak to gain a
bird's eye view of the San Juan Islands. We arrived at an overlook near the summit just before sunset, giving us a spectacular view of the islands below. Didi lead us in a session of yoga in this phenomenal spot as we watched the sunset over the islands. We hiked back down
by the moon and starlight. The day and night were crystal clear, enabling us to easily view the Milky Way at night, even. Day 2 saw the winds change direction and diminish somewhat, which enabled us to paddle the kayaks in close to the leeward side of Lummi Island, catching views of many seals, a great blue heron, and some ravens. Lunch on a sheltered beach felt great in the warm sun, and it was a good time for some more yoga. We paddled all afternoon, then set up camp on the beach. We awoke the next morning to glassy
seas on nary a hint of wind. Hooray!

Conditions were now perfect for paddling. Blue sky, calm seas, and no wind. We enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast, then headed out across Rosario Strait to Clark Island, where we enjoyed more yoga and a delicious lunch. We explored
Clark and Barnes Islands by kayak in the afternoon, then headed back to Lummi Island to conclude the trip.
