We’ve combined all the best that Costa Rica has to offer for this tour – great paddling, awesome instructors, a schedule with plenty of down time for recovery, and side adventures to the jungle and the beach to keep a smile on anyone’s face.  Not wanting to make your vacation feel like an organized tour but a grand adventure with good people?  This is the trip for you.  We’ll be paddling some of the warmest rivers in Costa Rica with the goals of fun and improving your kayaking.  We’ll even work on our Spanish – “una cerveza, por favor!”  A wildlife interpretive tour, zip-lines through the tree tops, and days at the beach: you can’t beat it!

Trip low down

Group size: 6-12

Departure point: San Jose, COSTA RICA

Time of year: November through December

DAY 1 - Arrive in San Jose, transfer airport-hotel. Overnight in Alejuela at the Hotel Mi Tierra.

DAY 2 - On our first day we head to the beautiful wildlife reserve of Hacienda Baru, located on the western seashore. En route we will stop to run the lower Rio Baru, a gentle class II run. Accommodations at Hacienda Baru. (B,L,D)

DAY 3 - For our second river day we’ll return to the Rio Baru. We’ll be putting in slightly higher to increase the work more on river navigation skills and visit an amazing waterfall that comes down a side canyon. Having two days in a row on the same run will help to build your confidence levels and solidify the skills that we worked on yesterday. Accommodations at Hacienda Baru. (B,L,D)

DAY 4 - You’ve paddled hard and deserve a break, so today we’ll be visiting Hacienda Baru. Here you’ll take an interpretive jungle canopy tour (via zip-lines of course!). Flora and fauna abound - learn first hand why the rainforest is worth protecting. Enjoy the afternoon surfing in your kayak at the beach. Accommodations at Hacienda Baru. (B,L,D)

DAY 5 - Time to check out the lower Rio Naranjo. One of the west coast’s fun and beautiful rivers, the Naranjo provides a good environment to practice the skills that we worked on our first two days. This class II+/III- run is a wide river and more technical than the Baru. Get ready for some good excitement and big smiles. Accomodations at Reina de la Selva eco-lodge. (B,L,D)

DAY 6 - Return for a second day on the Naranjo, putting in higher than our run yesterday. You’ll revel in the challenge as we face the mighty rapids of “Robin Hood” and “Sherwood Forest”. Accomodations at Reina de la Selva eco-lodge. (B,L,D)

DAYS 7/8 - These last two days are designed to go find the best water of the week. The Savegre and General rivers are both good candidates, but there are others. Camping or hotel on DAY 7. Return to San Jose on DAY 8 for farewell dinner. Overnight in Alejuela at the Hotel Mi Tierra on DAY 8. (B,L,D)

DAY 9 - Transfer Hotel - Airport (B)
